Social Sculpture

Leading a photo critique activity at a community center. Baishizhou, Shenzhen.
Child’s Eye Baishizhou was a community arts social sculpture based in the Baishizhou urban village of Shenzhen, China that encouraged the local children to use photography to explore their neighborhoods. As a work of social sculpture, an expanded concept of art existing outside of traditional art institutions, the medium of the project was the community of Baishizhou and the work produced was the collaboration of the adult facilitators and children in a series of workshops. The photographs that the children created in the workshops were regularly exhibited outside of the community center where the activities took place. The group of Chinese activists I partnered with have continued developing the project in the community.
